If you are looking for a meaningful way to serve others and bring comfort to those in need, Tobit Ministry is a wonderful option. Our parish is seeking new volunteers to join the Tobit Ministry, a beautiful and compassionate outreach that supports families in their time of grief.
Named after the biblical figure Tobit, who lovingly cared for the dead, this ministry accompanies families through one of the most difficult moments of their lives—the loss of a loved one. Tobit Ministers serve as a gentle, guiding presence for bereaved families as they prepare for a Catholic funeral. Volunteers meet with family members to help them select appropriate Scripture readings, music, and other elements of the funeral liturgy. They also provide compassionate support, helping ensure the family feels the comfort of our parish community and the hope of Christ’s resurrection.
Tobit Ministers are not expected to be experts—just caring individuals with a desire to listen, offer guidance, and walk alongside others in their grief. Training and resources are provided to help you feel confident and well-prepared in this sacred role. Whether you’ve experienced this process yourself or simply feel called to support others, your presence can make a profound difference.
This ministry is ideal for those with a pastoral heart, a listening ear, and a willingness to be present in life’s tender moments. Volunteers serve on a rotating basis depending on need and availability.
If you feel called to this ministry or would like to learn more, please contact Cynthia White at 252-638-1984 or cynthia@spccnb.org or stop by the parish office.
