"With the Eucharist, the intimacy becomes total; the embrace between God and man reaches its apex." - Saint Pope John Paul II
Last weekend, many of our children received their First Holy Communion. This is more than a rite of passage. This is the moment they received Jesus, body, blood, soul, and divinity. What a gift! In John 6, Jesus tells us, "I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my Flesh for the life of the world." Jesus has given everything to nourish us and sustain us and unite us to himself.
As we celebrate this Sacrament with them, let us remember that it is not First Holy Communion that is the Sacrament; it is Holy Communion any day of your life that is the Sacrament. Each time we receive the Eucharist, we are again united with our Bridegroom as we receive his gift of love - his "Flesh for the life of the world."
Thank you, God, for your presence. Emmanuel, you are with us.
