On a beautiful day during this Jubilee Year 2025, thirty parishioners from Saint Paul Catholic Church embarked on a spiritual journey to Basilica of Saint Mary in Wilmington, NC. This special pilgrimage was a meaningful part of our parish’s celebration of the Jubilee Year — a time of hope, mercy, and deeper union with God.
The day began with a bus ride filled with conversation and a shared spirit of anticipation. Upon arrival at the magnificent basilica, we were warmly welcomed and treated to a guided tour by Fr. T, who shared the rich history, stunning architecture, and spiritual significance of the basilica — a true gem of Catholic heritage in North Carolina.
After the tour, we gathered together to celebrate Holy Mass, giving thanks for the opportunity to make this pilgrimage as a parish. The Mass was reverent and deeply moving, reminding us of the abundant grace available during this Jubilee Year.
Following Mass, we shared a joyful lunch and had the privilege of listening to Fr. Steven, who gave an inspiring and informative talk on plenary indulgences — what they are, how they are obtained, and why the Church offers them especially during Jubilee Years. His words helped us more fully understand the spiritual fruits of our pilgrimage and the beauty of God’s mercy.
To conclude our day, we united in prayer, offering a decade of the Rosary for the intentions of the Holy Father, one of the requirements for receiving a plenary indulgence. It was a peaceful and prayerful end to a day filled with grace, fellowship, and faith.
We return from this pilgrimage with grateful hearts, renewed spirits, and a deeper sense of connection to the universal Church. May this Jubilee Year continue to be a time of receiving and giving God's mercy as we grow in our desire for the things of heaven.
